From poker table to game studio: Andre Villandberg on Bullshark Games

We at CasinoFeber had the chance to talk to Andre Villandberg, the founder behind Bullshark Games. Andre is the poker player who brought the player’s perspective into the slot world and built a studio that dares to be more. Here he tells us what makes their studio stand out in the casino world.

Casinofeber: Give Swedish players a quick intro: who are Bullshark Games?

Andre Villandberg: Bullshark Games is an independent slot studio run by people who truly love games. We create games that we ourselves want to play: high-energy, high volatility, daring mechanics and a clear sense of progression. No reskins, no shortcuts – just slots that feel exciting, unpredictable and worth another spin.

Casinofeber: Which title best captures your “DNA” and why?

Andre Villandberg: Age of Seth represents us best. It has everything we stand for: clear progression for the player, chaotic volatility and big emotional peaks. It builds tension in a way that keeps the player engaged, and the unpredictability fits the theme perfectly.

Casinofeber: Sweden now requires a B2B license for suppliers who want to offer games to casinos with a Swedish license. What do you think of the requirement?

Andre Villandberg: We understand the purpose of the regulation, but the process is quite demanding – especially for smaller, independent studios like ours. At the moment, it is not something we are actively pursuing. However, we are licensed by the MGA and our games are certified in several other European markets, so we continue to grow where it makes sense for the company.

Casinofeber: You’ve been in almost every seat, player, operator and supplier. Which perspective has shaped Bullshark the most, and how does that show in your games?

Andre Villandberg: Honestly: all three matter. But the player perspective comes first. We think “feel, flow and fairness” from the ground up. It guides how we build features, how we add volatility and how we set the pace. If the game doesn’t get us excited, then we don’t release it.

Casinofeber: How much does feedback from streamers and the community influence your roadmap?

Andre Villandberg: Actually a lot. Streamers see early on what works and what doesn’t. Not just in terms of max wins but also those moments that trigger hype . We study those reactions closely, and it affects tempo, volatility and visual feedback. The community also helps us refine bonuses and timing.

Casinofeber: Is there a theme you haven’t touched on yet, but would like to?

Andre Villandberg: Yes, several! One example is the concept of time travel. Something that jumps between different eras or styles in the middle of the game. Hard to do without it becoming plodding, but we would love to explore it.

Casinofeber: Name a game mechanic that you think is overused in slots, and one that is underestimated?

Andre Villandberg: Overused? Hold & Win without any twist whatsoever. It’s everywhere. Underrated? Features that “build” on each other, where one feature affects the next. It hasn’t been explored enough. It’s something we’ll explore more soon.

Casinofeber: If you could create something together with another studio, who would you choose and what would you do?

Andre Villandberg: We already work with Hacksaw, which would have been our obvious answer because they are pioneers when it comes to combining innovation with sharp delivery. In addition to them, Nolimit City would be an interesting partner. They dare to take risks both creatively and mechanically. I think we could create something really crazy together, maybe a game that completely reevaluates how to activate a bonus or the pace. There is room to revolutionize.

Casinofeber: Can you offer a teaser for the next 3–6 months?

Andre Villandberg: We have some big titles in the works, including our first slot inspired by Greek gods but with a twist, a daring interpretation of “Orcs and dungeon”-collecting. As well as one that is something of a wild-card, but we are choosing to keep it a secret for now. Common to all of us is Bullshark’s signature: our progressive features and character-driven design choices.

Casinofeber: Finally, finish the sentence: “A Bullshark game should always…”

Andre Villandberg:…feels like something big could happen on the next spin.

Thanks Andre Villandberg for the chat! We look forward to the day when Bullshark Games appears in Swedish casinos , hopefully sooner rather than later!
