Q&A with Andre Villandberg about Age of Seth

Make room for Age of Seth – a fresh Egypt slot from the youngish studio Bullshark Games. Here we interview Andre Villandberg, the founding father and CEO of the company, about their upcoming release.

Part 1: Introducing Andre and Seth

Hi Andre and thanks for doing this interview. Today we are talking about your new game Age of Seth. Before we dive into this topic, could you introduce yourself and Bullshark Games please?

Thanks for having me! I’m Andre, the founder and CEO of Bullshark Games. We’re a fairly young studio, we released our first game in late 2023, but we’ve been moving fast. Our team is made up of people who genuinely love slots. We play a lot ourselves, which really helps us understand what makes a game exciting. That’s why our motto is “From Players to Players.”.

Every game we release is built around the idea of doing something a little different, whether it’s a quirky theme, a new mechanic, or just tweaking the math in a way that makes the experience more engaging.

Pyramids are super old and there already exist a lot of Egypt slots. Why did you decide to create an Egypt-themed slot in 2025? How does Age of Seth stand out from the rest?

You’re right, Egypt is one of the most used themes in slots. But we thought: what if we approached it differently? Rather than another Book-style game with a pharaoh and golden tombs, we wanted something darker, edgier, and more mysteriousAge of Seth isn’t about a noble hero seeking treasure, it’s about chaos and unpredictability, which perfectly fits the character of Seth.

From a gameplay perspective, the extreme volatilityunpredictable pacing, and gameplay balance make this slot feel very different from a typical Egypt release. You never quite know when something wild is going to happen, and we love that.

There are also plenty of Egyptian gods to choose from. What made you go with Seth – the lord of deserts, storms, and disorder?

Seth is a perfect fit for the kind of games we like to build. He’s not your standard “hero” god, he’s more unpredictable, powerful, and even a bit chaotic, which fits the high volatility and “anything can happen” feel we wanted for this game.

Plus, Seth hasn’t been used nearly as much in slots compared to gods like Ra or Anubis, so it gave us a chance to stand out visually and narratively.

Part 2: Exploring Age of Seth

Seth is certainly a good choice for a slot with high volatility. How do you determine what is the perfect volatility for each game?

We always ask ourselves: what kind of emotions do we want players to feel? If the idea is to create tension and huge win potential, high volatility is the way to go.

But we also look at feature pacinggame flow, and how the mechanics interact. Sometimes a game might seem like it should be high volatility, but after testing, it plays better with a bit less variance. We do thousands of test spins ourselves during development to make sure it feels right, and I mean literally, I personally do 10,000 – 20,000 spins per game.

You are refreshingly open about game mathematics like volatility, RTP ranges, and hit rates. Big thumbs up for that! As a fellow player and slot expert, which metric do you think is the most important?

Thank you! We try to be as transparent as possible. If I had to pick one metric, I’d say it’s game flow, which isn’t a single number but more of a feel, how the game plays out over time.

But if we’re talking numbers, I’d say hit rate is underrated. RTP is important, of course, but hit rate really defines how often something happens, how engaging the game feels, and how much tension is built between wins.

The game offers four different bonus buy options. Could you introduce them to us and explain how they differ from each other?

Absolutely. In Age of Seth, we wanted to give players a few different ways to experience the bonus, depending on their risk appetite and play style:

  1. Bonushunt Featurespins™ – This option increases the chance of triggering the bonus by 5x. The symbol collection starts at 5, so players only need to connect five symbols to activate the first mini-feature, getting the action started quickly.
  2. Seth’s Favor Featurespins™ – Here, the symbol collection starts at 10, which guarantees at least one mini-feature. The odds of entering the main bonus round are also greatly increased, making it a solid mid-tier option.
  3. Seth’s Blessing – For 100x, players can buy the regular bonus, where 4 mini-features are guaranteed. This mode also includes a special “second chance” spin that may trigger after the bonus ends, offering an extra shot at reaching 100 collected symbols and activating the Mighty Seth Wild.
  4. Max Buy – For 300x, players unlock the Super Bonus, which includes 2 guaranteed spins, each starting with 4 mini-features. There’s also a chance to trigger a third spin. This option offers the highest odds of collecting 100 symbols and activating the Seth Wild, unlocking the game’s full potential.

It’s all about giving players options, whether they want to ease into the feature or go all-in for a shot at the biggest wins.

Part 3: Moving on…

Let’s talk about design next. Your games have very different looks—for example, Coop Clash and Amazing Miceketeers are very cartoonish compared to Age of Seth. How do you decide on the right style?

We like to let the theme guide the style. If it’s a fun, light-hearted concept like Coop Clash, then a cartoon style with humor makes perfect sense. But with a darker game like Age of Seth, we want the visuals to feel moody, intense, and dramatic.

We also just love variety. We’re not trying to build one consistent visual identity across all games, we’d rather surprise players with something new every time.

Which are the top 3 hottest slots in your portfolio currently? Do they change often as you release more games, or do players have some evergreen favorites?

Right now, the hottest titles are:

  • Valhalla: Wild Winter – thanks to its wild collection mechanic
  • Jawsome Pirates – players love the treasure chest feature
  • Pickle Bandits – growing multipliers and long-lasting spins keep players hooked

These do change as we release more games, but some of them definitely feel like they’ll be evergreens.

Talking about favourites. Which Bullshark slot is your personal favorite and why? Any slots from other game providers that have stolen your heart too?

Tough question! My personal favorite is Junkyard Kings. I’ve had a max win on it in production and several 5000x+ hits. The combination of grid multipliers and moving wilds creates constant tension, it really keeps you on the edge of your seat.

From other providers, I still enjoy the older NetEnt classics like Dead or Alive, and I have a lot of respect for Relax Gaming, they strike a great balance between fun and serious win potential.

And of course, one of my all-time favorites is Hacksaw’s Wanted Dead or a Wild. I’m actually typing these answers on a large mousepad with Wanted branding on it! I still remember when it launched, I hit two 3000x+ wins on the same day and I was hooked for life.

I still occasionally grind casino bonuses on the side when I have the time, some habits die hard!

The interview is nearing its end. Before we let you go, could you walk us through the studio’s plans for the rest of 2025? Any secrets you want to share? 👀

2025 is shaping up to be a big year for us. We’ve got some really fun mechanics coming in May and June, and we’re continuing to experiment with new ideas, so there’s a lot to look forward to.

In the second half of the year, we’re hoping to release a couple more non-standard games, similar to what we did with Age of Seth, as those kinds of projects are especially fun for us to test, tweak, and play.
